Dementia is one of the most alarming health challenges of our time. In Belgium (where I’m from), more than 200,000 people are currently living with the disease, and globally, the numbers are probably even worse.
These days, studies show at about 1 in 5 people will experience dementia at some point in their lives. That’s INSANE, RIGHT?!
All my grandparents have/had dementia, and let me tell you — it’s horrible.
Seeing the people that you love so much, fade away slowly into nothingness, until they’re still only physically there… the person that you knew is still there, but is also gone at the same time.
I get tears in my eyes by thinking and writing about this, it’s such a terrible thing.
