How does Substack Work? (Part 1)

A blog series on how to get started with Substack

I don’t know about you, but for me, the best way to learn something, is to just DO it, AND write about it.

By writing, I put more thought into what I do, why I do it, how something works…. AND I remember it better.

So, while I’m writing this article, I’m learning at the same time :)

First of all.. what the hell is Substack?

No, it’s not a pile of sandwiches.

Substack is a blog where you can email the posts to your readers / subscribers.

Or in other words:

Substack is a blogging platform
with a built-in email newsletter feature
that automatically can send your blog posts to your subscribers and
has the option to charge your subscribers
a recurring subscription
for reading access to your posts.

You can publish:

• emails (yes, you don’t need MailChimp anymore)
• posts
• notes
• forum-like threads
• podcasts
• …

It gives all of us an opportunity:

• Journalists can simply publish and get their messages out
• New writers can build a portfolio while…
